Free is the big word of the internet, the big word of today. Everyone wants something for nothing, and the internet has, illegally and legally, given opportunities for many things to be obtained gratis.
Let's just say you're a tennis coach. Why would you want to publish thirty years of professional experience, as workouttennis.com does, for free?
The fact is that the knowledge that any pro tour coach has, is similar. You could argue that anyone with thirty years' experience will have the same knowledge of another with thirty years' experience. But, as everyone knows, there are little differences. A coach may give, through writing and videos and pictures, the basis of his knowledge, that anyone can profit from. It's all on the house. The real problem for the consumer in taking on this gratuitous material, is, can he exploit it in any way?
If you can't exploit it, then the coach has nothing to worry about. At worst another guy will do copy and paste of all of my work , and create his own website, at risk of being taken to court of course. He will still never be in a position to offer what workouttennis can offer, which is professional tennis services, my style. However much you copy and clone, you simply will never get exactly that which is me, or us, or our situation. You, and your situation, is unavoidably different.
Another thing we shouldn't forget, is that one of the principles of learning is that the human learns to copy, and adapt copies for his own use.
A child mimics his parents. Ignoring the genetic fact that a quasi-perfect copy of the parents has just been made, his behaviour, in his situation, is conditioned by his parents. It is human nature to learn these social skills, and certain technical skills too, like eating with a knife and fork, by copying. We are encouraged by our parents to copy, and of course there is no price, it's all free.
Then when you go to school, your teachers will give you lessons that he himself has copied from his teachers. You'll be required to produce this for your exams. State education is a handout. So, what a wonderful opportunity you have to obtain essential life information for nothing.
Finally you go to work. Let's say you've decided to become a carpenter. You will be put in front of some wood with a master craftsman to teach you how to work with it. You won't suddenly start doing your own thing, you'll copy him. You could argue at certain points this information is no longer free. You'll be paying for something at some point. Essentially, if you apply yourself properly, and you want to become a master carpenter, this information and training you receive from the master, is, if not free, cheap.
Then there are others who say that you can become a master carpenter off the internet. There are so many videos with commentaries that show you exactly how to do things. That carpenter on the video has just given his knowledge away for free! Once again, whether it's free, or just a tiny price, we are still, all through our lives, encouraged to copy from others. In fact, if you stop copying, you stop moving forwards.
The final problem is simply a money one. We must all live from the skills we have perfected. Let's get back to the tennis coach.
I've given thousands of tennis lessons where I've received $xx per hour. From that I can live. I've then spent the same time again chatting to people about tennis, which I'd also consider to be as essential knowledge as that which I give in my tennis lessons. This is just a throwaway. However, the principle that there is something you pay for, and soemthing you don't is a good one. If a prospective client, through getting something from me for free, is encouraged to get more of me, and for that he might have to pay, then I have set up a perfect business plan.
Working with the internet is exactly like that. I am thrilled with the prospect of giving away my knowledge unpaid. Nothing on this website will cost you anything, and it is my pleasure to be able to offer that to you. There is a wider package behind this sensational offer. Whether you want it or not is your choice. I hope you can make this choice by enjoying my material. Then when you decide to go further, you'll find that there is a fixed proposition, a professional service, that you have to hand over some dollar bills for, just a few. And still you'll be getting the benefit of all of my experience for a handful of dollars. It's a bargain! It's such a bargain, it's almost like it were free.
